How do I register?

This pre-conference workshop is funded by the IDEA Human Sciences Board of Directors. Attendance is free but limited to four faculty in each human sciences program. Afternoon refreshments are included. In addition, the board is covering the cost of attendees' hotel rooms on Sunday night (they must be staying at the conference hotel). Attendees should book their own Sunday night hotel room. The IDEA management team will work with the hotel to cover that part of the stay.

Faculty will register for the workshop as part of the conference registration. The pre-conference workshop registration will close after Feb. 3.

What will I learn?

This three-hour workshop will empower faculty to effectively integrate generative artificial intelligence (AI) into their teaching practices. Presenters will demonstrate how to use free AI tools (ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot) to enhance and streamline creating course materials, developing authentic assessments and rubrics, and making accessibility easier. Facilitators will guide hands-on activities for participants to explore and brainstorm how to use AI to enhance lesson plans, increase student engagement, and support personalized learning experiences. Participants will also learn guiding principles for using AI responsibly and critically and will have opportunities to share their ideas, experiences, and concerns in a group discussion.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Apply practical skills and knowledge to leverage AI tools effectively in their teaching.
  • Use generative AI to enhance instructional approaches and assessment strategies.
  • Discuss the capabilities of AI as well as some of the challenges and opportunities.
