Purpose of this Initiative

  • How will this change to our name benefit the alliance?
    • This initiative aims to elevate the alliance’s advantages and help it remain competitive in an ever-changing landscape. Our growth potential will expand when prospective students, university partners, and search engines better understand our purpose through our name.
    • The change to our name will increase the connectedness students, faculty, and staff feel to the alliance, creating a greater sense of belonging on a more personal level. This sense of connectedness was a common theme revealed through our experience survey in the fall of 2022.
  • What does the budget for this initiative encompass?
    • The cabinet has endorsed a robust budget for this endeavor, which encompasses redesigning the logo, creating a new and revitalized webpage, offering video editing services, and updating collateral materials. These efforts are all geared toward celebrating the alliance’s promising future.
    • The budget encompasses two marketing initiatives scheduled to commence promptly after introducing the new name and brand. These initiatives consist of search engine marketing and LinkedIn marketing to enhance awareness of the alliance. Additionally, the budget allocates resources for engaging a marketing firm to manage these campaigns in collaboration with the management team.
  • What was wrong with the name we had before?
    • Great Plains IDEA and AG IDEA are good names and have served us well for 23 years. However, our alliance has grown in that time and not all members (universities and people) see themselves in the name “Great Plains”. It’s important that the alliance be inclusive so that all members are reflected independent of geography. After all, our mission is to serve learners no matter where they are.
    • Our updated name can grow with us as we continue to expand to new universities, additional disciplines, and even new countries while still providing a link to our past.
