Overview

Course Description

This course is an in-depth study of risk management concepts, tools, and strategies for individuals and families. Students study life insurance, property and casualty insurance, liability insurance, accident insurance, disability insurance, health insurance, long-term care insurance, and government-subsidized programs. Students discuss current and emerging issues as well as ethical considerations in relation to risk management. Case studies provide experience in selecting insurance products suitable for individuals and families.

Required Financial Calculator
This course requires a financial calculator with a manual. The instructor can provide video tutorials for the Texas Instruments BA II Plus financial calculator. The instructor is also familiar with the HP12C.

If you do not feel comfortable with a financial calculator for all topics, and you intend to sit for the CFP® exam, the instructor encourages you to purchase Understanding Your Financial Calculator, 6th Ed.: Kaplan Schweser. This text provides keystroke examples for the following calculators: HP 17BII, HP12C, HP10BII, TI BA II Plus, and Sharp EL 733A. Older editions may also suffice.
