Biography

Aaron Carbuhn, Ph.D., RD, CSSD, joined the faculty in the KU Department of Dietetics and Nutrition as an assistant professor in 2018. His education, training, and work experience in the intersection of nutrition with sports and exercise science brings a unique aspect to the programs at KU.

Prior to his position at KU Medical Center, Carbuhn served as director of sports nutrition for Kansas Athletics, Inc. on the KU Lawrence campus from 2010 to 2018. In this role, he directed and managed all nutritional services for the university's sports teams. He also directed team and individual iDXA body composition testing and analysis, as well as developed nutritional programs and interventions for specific sports.

Carbuhn earned his doctorate in exercise physiology from KU in 2017. From 2003 to 2009, he studied nutrition and sport physiology at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, and received two master's degrees after completing undergraduate studies in nutritional science.

In addition, Carbuhn has received specialty training and certification in sports dietetics, strength and conditioning coaching, and food safety. He is an active member of many national professional organizations including the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association, American Dietetic Association, and National Strength and Conditioning Association.
