Biography
Carl Weems received his education from Florida State University (bachelor's degree), Florida International University (doctorate), and Stanford University (post-doctorate). Currently, he is a full professor and chair in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Iowa State University. Previously he was a full professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of New Orleans, where he served as the associate chair.
He also holds research/faculty appointments in the Department of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (clinical professor) and in the LSU Life Course and Aging Center (adjunct faculty). He has been teaching for over 20 years at the university level and has scholarly interests in emotional development, traumatic stress, research methods, and statistics. He taught advanced graduate statistics for doctoral students at the University of New Orleans for 10 years.
Weems is editor in chief of the Child & Youth Care Forum, a peer-reviewed international journal publishing scientific advances in child development and youth mental health. He sits on the editorial boards of four other prominent journals in psychology and psychiatry.
His research has centered upon basic research in developmental psychopathology focused on testing contextual, bio-behavioral and cognitive-developmental models of emotional disorders, improving the empirical utility of assessment and measurement techniques and moving the basic science of developmental psychopathology, and measurement theory out of the lab and into real-world applications. His research has often focused on advanced statistical modeling. He has published papers contributing to the field of data analysis and methods. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, private foundations, and industry.
