Biography

Kelley Buchheister’s research and teaching focus are on enhancing students’ thinking and reasoning in early mathematics. She is interested in developing practicing and prospective teachers’ understanding of the cultural contexts of learning and constructing appropriately challenging environments that provide the greatest opportunity for all students to achieve high-quality experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines.

Through research, she and colleagues closely examine the role of culturally relevant pedagogy and teacher beliefs in educational experiences. They prioritize equity and cultural contexts of learning as fundamental elements of early educational experiences.
