Biography

Laurie Bulock has interests in health and prevention fields, which led to an interest in strengthening families as one of the best forms of prevention, for both health and substance abuse problems. Through practical experiences and graduate school research, it became clear that much was known about risk factors for individuals and families, but more needed to be known about factors that encourage resilience.

Her research interest is resilience at individual and family levels. Similarly, her educational aim is to encourage students to understand individuals and families in terms of human development concepts and risk and resilience factors. Her work with students focuses on orienting them to the human development and family studies major at Michigan State University and supporting their professional development through learning and networking opportunities.
