Melissa Herzog

Melissa Herzog is an associate teaching professor of Human Development & Family Science at the University of Missouri. She has taught in the IDEA youth development program since 2008 and serves as the academic advisor for students in the program at MU. She has previously served as the faculty coordinator for the IDEA youth development program and received the IDEA Faculty Excellence Award in 2021.

As a faculty instructor, Herzog teaches undergraduate courses at Mizzou including Intimate Relationships & Marriage and Successful Adulting. For the IDEA youth development program, Herzog teaches Foundations of Youth Development and Adolescents and Their Families.  

From 2009-2015, Herzog coordinated a large-scale, federally-funded randomized control trial examining the impact of school-based social competence interventions for youth with social challenges (such as high-functioning autism spectrum disorder and mild behavior disorders). She and her colleagues developed and trained school personnel to implement and tested the efficacy of the intervention that provided direct instruction and practice opportunities for skills and strategies for youth to navigate relationships with peers and their school environment.
