Biography

Michelle C. Mathews has over 25 years of experience in early childhood education as a teacher, administrator, advocate, trainer, consultant, grant writer, college professor, researcher, evaluator, curriculum developer, and assessment coordinator, including over 15 years as the Director of the MU Child Development Lab (1996-2003 and 2014-2022).

Mathews teaches and coordinates the infant toddler, preschool, and capstone practicum courses. As an instructor, her courses focus on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in early childhood and early childhood technology. Mathews is also co-author of Their Future is in our Hands: Becoming an Effective Advocate for Early Childhood Education and is the former president of the Missouri Association for the Education of Young Children.
