Biography

Peter Martin is a university professor of gerontology in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Iowa State University. His research is concerned with longevity, personality, stress, coping, and well-being. Martin investigates the importance of a resilient or robust personality, the importance of proximal and distal life events and the influence of coping behaviors on psychological well-being among very old adults.

As an international scholar, Martin has worked as director of the German Center for Research on Aging at the University of Heidelberg (1998-2000) and as an endowed chair at the Maharaja Savajirao University of Baroda, India (2002 and 2009). In 2014, he was a Fulbright research scholar at the University of Osaka where he compared aspects of longevity in Japan and the United States of America.
