Biography
Yuya Kiuchi's research interests include African American studies and history, popular culture studies, and youth development. Kiuchi teaches various undergraduate and graduate classes online and offline, as well as numerous study abroad programs in Japan, Australia, Spain, and others.
He has authored/edited eight academic books, including "Struggles for Equal Voice: The History of African American Media Democracy" (SUNY Press, 2019), " and "Race Still Matters: The Reality of African American Lives and the Myth of Postracial Society" (SUNY Press, 2016). He has also translated over seven books from English to Japanese, including Barack Obama’s "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance." Kiuchi serves on the editorial advisory board for the Journal of Popular Culture, and as an Endowment Board member for the Popular Culture Association.
