State Authorization

State authorization regulations ensure quality post-secondary educational opportunities and protect consumer rights. IDEA member universities are responsible for applying to states for approval to conduct educational activities. Each state determines which activities require approval and the process for receiving that approval. Approved activities may include online learning and teaching, practical experiences (practicum), marketing, and more.

Make sure the IDEA member university you are considering as a home university is authorized to offer online courses in the state where you live or will complete your educational activities (practicum, internships, etc.).
